The time zone calculator converts a time from one time zone to another. Select the source time zone, enter the time, and choose the target zone to see the equivalent local time. It handles daylight saving time transitions and is accurate for scheduling meetings across countries.
How Time Zones Work
The world is divided into 24 primary time zones, each roughly 15 degrees of longitude wide, offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) by whole or half hours. The International Date Line in the Pacific marks where the calendar date changes. Some countries use non-standard offsets: India is UTC+5:30 and Nepal is UTC+5:45.
Daylight Saving Time
Many countries advance clocks by one hour in spring and return to standard time in autumn to extend evening daylight. The exact transition dates vary by country and change occasionally. The US springs forward on the second Sunday in March and falls back on the first Sunday in November. Europe transitions on the last Sunday in March and October.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is UTC?⌄
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global time standard that all time zones reference. It replaced Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) as the international standard but they differ by less than one second. Time zones are expressed as UTC offset, such as UTC-5 for Eastern Standard Time.
Does daylight saving time affect all countries?⌄
No. About 70 countries observe daylight saving time. Most of Asia, Africa, and countries near the equator do not. Some regions that previously observed it have permanently abolished the practice.
How do I schedule a meeting across time zones?⌄
Enter the meeting time in your local time zone and convert to each participant's zone. Aim for overlap within business hours. Early morning in the US West Coast (8 AM PT) is afternoon in Europe (4-5 PM CET), which is one of the most common cross-Atlantic meeting windows.
